چکیده

Aqueous dispersions of hydrophobic high-molar-mass cellulose-graft-polystyrene (Cel-g-PS) copolymers were prepared by nanoprecipitation from dioxane solutions using sodium dodecyl sulfate as a stabilizer. The size and structure of formed Cel-g-PS nanoparticles were studied by scattering techniques (static and dynamic light scattering, SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy. The scattering and microscopy data show that nanoprecipitation of Cel-g-PS leads to the formation of polydisperse aggregates of collapsed Cel-g-PS macromolecules containing entrapped SDS micelles in the kinetically frozen state. The final size of the aggregates can be tuned by changing the copolymer concentration, cP, in the dioxane solution. The average hydrodynamic radius of the aggregates, RH, scales as [(RH/RH,0)–1] ~ cP, where RH,0 is the RH value extrapolated to the zero copolymer concentration.

Charged Rod-Like Nanoparticles Assisting Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Dispersion in Water

A new dispersant for stabilization of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in water that simultaneously utilizes three different dispersion or stabilization mechanisms: surfactant adsorption, polymeric wrapping, and Coulomb repulsive interaction, has been demonstrated. The new dispersant, a charged rod-like nanoparticle (cROD), is a cylindrical micelle wrapped by negatively charged polymers whi...

Synthesis of crosslinked polymeric nanocapsules using catanionic vesicle templates stabilized by compressed CO2.

The synthesis of polymeric nanocapsules in the approximate diameter range 40-100 nm (TEM/SEM) using catanionic surfactant vesicle templates stabilized by subcritical CO2 is demonstrated. Near equimolar aqueous solutions of the surfactants sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) experienced immediate vesicle destabilization and precipitation in the absence of CO2...

Excitation Energy Transfer from Semi-Conducting Polymer Nanoparticles to Surface-Bound Fluorescent Dyes

Excitation energy transfer from semi-conducting polymers to fluorescent dyes (or dye-labeled analytes) is commonly used in sensor applications, e.g., for DNA and protein sensing. Semi-conducting polymers show rather high absorption cross-sections and a high intra-chain mobility of the delocalized excitations leading to a high sensitivity for the excitation light. However, sensing of biological ...
